ICU14008

Case IH ICU14008 – ICU: Engine Oil Pressure Data Error

Issue description

The Instrument Cluster Unit (ICU) is not receiving a valid signal from the engine's oil pressure sending unit. The system has detected that engine oil pressure data is either in an error state or not available, indicating a potential issue with data transmission, a faulty sensor, a wiring harness problem, or an internal issue with the ICU itself.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum 7120
  • Magnum 7140
  • Magnum 7240
  • Magnum 7150
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 185
  • Puma 200
  • Puma 240
  • JX90
  • Farmall Series
  • MXM Series
  • C-series
  • CX-series

Check the cause

  1. Verify actual engine oil pressure using a mechanical gauge to rule out a genuine low-pressure mechanical failure

  2. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the oil pressure sensor(s) for chafing, breaks, or corrosion

  3. Check the sensor connector for secure attachment, clean terminals, and signs of oil leaking through the sensor

  4. Test the sensor wiring circuit for proper supply voltage and ground

Repair steps

  1. Perform mechanical pressure test

Locate the engine oil pressure sensor on the engine block (often on the left side). Remove the sensor, install a mechanical gauge, start the engine, and compare pressure readings at idle and operating RPMs to service manual specifications. If pressure is low, do not run the engine until the mechanical issue is resolved.

  2. Inspect wiring and connector

If mechanical pressure is normal, inspect the harness for damage. Check that the connector is securely attached and terminals are clean. Look for oil leaking through a faulty sensor into the electrical connector.

  3. Test sensor wiring

Disconnect the electrical connector. With the key 'on', test a three-wire sensor for supply voltage (typically 5V) and ground. For a one-wire switch, ground the wire with the key on; the dash gauge should react, confirming wiring integrity.

  4. Replace oil pressure sensor

If wiring and connections are intact and mechanical pressure is verified good, replace the faulty sensor with a new OEM or equivalent part.

  5. Verify repair

Clear any fault codes and run the tractor to ensure the ICU14008 code does not reappear and the oil pressure gauge provides a plausible reading.
