Case IH II – Armrest Controller (ARM) or Tractor Management Frame (TMF) / Hitch Controller: Hitch up/down switch failed

This fault code indicates that the controller is receiving an invalid, missing, or implausible signal from the hitch up/down switch. This typically means there is an open circuit, a short to ground, or a mechanical failure inside the switch causing it to send simultaneous 'up' and 'down' signals.

   Use the tractor's diagnostic display or a service tool (like Jaltest) to monitor the status of the hitch switch and verify if the armrest controller registers input when toggled.

   Look for secondary codes (such as ARM 1059) which might indicate a broader 5-volt reference or ground issue within the armrest.

   Disconnect the switch connector (e.g., J210) and measure continuity between the switch power terminal (12-volt supply) and the hitch up/down signal terminals.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the switch and the armrest controller for chafing, pinched wires, or loose pins.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the trim panels or retaining screws on the armrest console to access the underside of the hitch control panel.

   Disconnect the Switch

   Unplug the electrical connector (e.g., J210) from the back of the hitch up/down switch.

   Test the Switch

   Using a multimeter, test the switch for continuity in the UP, DOWN, and NEUTRAL positions. If the switch reads open when pressed or shows continuity on both circuits simultaneously, it has failed internally.

   Replace the Component

   Pop the faulty switch out of its mounting bezel and snap the new OEM switch into place.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the wiring harness and reinstall the armrest console trim.

   Clear Codes & Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Clear the stored fault codes using the tractor's AFS Pro display or diagnostic tool.

   Hitch Calibration

   Perform a 3-point hitch calibration cycle (often required after replacing hitch components or controllers) to ensure the armrest controller recognizes the new switch inputs and potentiometer limits.
