L02

Case IH L02 – Front Suspension Control Module: Raising Solenoid Not Working

Issue description

A malfunction in the Terraglide Front Axle Suspension system, typically indicating that the front suspension raising solenoid valve (a PWM solenoid) has an open circuit, a short to ground, or has mechanically failed, preventing the system from raising the front axle to its nominal height.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 175
  • MXM 190
  • MX / TG Series
  • Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Wiring and Connector Inspection: Check the wiring harness leading to the front suspension raising solenoid valve. Look for chafed wires causing a short to ground or broken wires causing an open circuit.

  2. Hydraulic System Check: Inspect the front suspension hydraulic components, including hoses, fittings, and cylinders, for any visible leaks or physical damage that could cause a loss of pressure.

  3. Sensor Calibration Check: Ensure that the front axle potentiometer (which measures the suspension height) is reading correctly and is properly calibrated, as faulty readings can sometimes trigger solenoid operation errors.

  4. System Reset: Disconnect the tractor's battery for a short period to reset the electronic control systems. Reconnect and check if the error code persists.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Safely park the tractor on level ground, block the wheels, and relieve the hydraulic pressure from the front suspension system.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the front axle suspension hydraulic control block, typically mounted near the front axle.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed an open or shorted wire, repair the harness and replace the connector plug if damaged.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

If the wiring is intact and the solenoid coil tests out of specification (or the valve is mechanically stuck), remove the faulty PWM raising solenoid valve and install the replacement.

  5. Recalibrate the System

Whenever a PWM solenoid valve is replaced, the non-volatile memory in the controller must be reset, and a full Transmission/EDC and Front Suspension calibration must be performed using the tractor's H-Menu (Calibration Mode).

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Front Suspension Raising Solenoid Valve (PWM Solenoid Valve)

Ensure the replacement solenoid is specifically designated for the 'Raising' function on the Terraglide suspension block.
