Case IH L06 – Front Suspended Axle Controller (GCM1 or XCM): The Suspension Is Not Calibrated

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the electronic control system for the front suspended axle has lost its calibration parameters or has not been successfully calibrated. Without calibration, the system cannot determine the nominal ride height, preventing the front suspension from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Check for related fault codes (e.g., U01-U05, L04-L05) indicating the front axle potentiometer has an open circuit, short circuit, or is reading outside of its set threshold limits.

  2. Verify power and fuses to the suspension controller. Look for blown fuses or low voltage supply codes (10022, 10023, 10024).

  3. Inspect the front axle potentiometer physical linkage to ensure it is intact, not bent, and securely connected.

  4. Check for overloading to ensure the tractor's front axle weight has not been drastically altered (e.g., heavy front weights added or removed) without allowing the suspension to reset.

  5. Disconnect the tractor's battery for a short period to reset the electronic control systems and clear temporary logic errors.

Repair steps

  1. Clear the Error Codes

    Use the tractor's H-Menu or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive fault codes from the GCM1/XCM controller.

  2. Initiate Calibration

    Access the "Suspended Front Axle Calibration Procedure" via the tractor's digital display (H-Menu) or the EST laptop.

  3. Run the Automated Sequence

    Follow the on-screen prompts to allow the tractor to automatically raise and lower the front suspension to its maximum and minimum limits. Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat, level surface with the engine running during this process.

  4. Monitor for Calibration Failures

    If the calibration fails, the system will likely throw a "U" code (e.g., U05: suspension not reaching minimum/maximum position, U08: suspension cannot reach maximum height in 20 seconds).

  5. Replace Faulty Components

    If the calibration repeatedly fails due to sensor threshold limits, replace the front axle potentiometer. If it fails due to a lack of movement, inspect and replace the lockout valve raising/lowering solenoids.
