Case IH L08 – GCM1 or XCM: Front Axle Weight Has Been Increased But The Suspension Is Unable To Reset Nominal Height
Issue description
This fault indicates that the tractor's control system has detected an increase in weight on the front axle, but the front suspension system is physically or hydraulically unable to raise the axle back to its calibrated nominal ride height. This typically occurs when attaching heavy front implements or filling a front tank, pointing to a failure in the suspension linkage, electrical sensors, or hydraulic supply.

Check the cause
Check Code Status: Determine if the code is 'Active' or 'Inactive' via the Pro 1200 monitor or instrument cluster. If inactive, clear the code and operate the tractor to see if it returns.
Visual Inspection of Linkage: Inspect the front axle position potentiometer (sensor), its operating arm, and the link rod. Ensure the linkage is not bent, disconnected, or binding.
Wiring and Harness Check: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the height potentiometer and the lockout valve/solenoids. Note: On Magnum models, harness damage is common near the bottom of the fan shroud due to poor routing. Look for shorts, open circuits, or corrosion.
Hydraulic System Inspection: Check the front suspension hydraulic components (hoses, fittings, cylinders) for visible leaks.
System Pressure Test: Verify that the regulated system pressure from the priority/regulator valve is adequate (typically around 325 - 355 psi, depending on the model) to supply the suspension valve block.
Fuse Check: Verify the 12V supply fuses to the front suspension module (e.g., 12VM, 12VF1, 12VF3) are not blown.
Repair steps
Secure the machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and block the wheels. Ensure the front suspension is fully lowered or mechanically supported before opening any hydraulic lines to prevent crushing hazards.
Resolve electrical and sensor faults
If diagnostic checks reveal a damaged potentiometer or severed wiring, splice and repair the harness or replace the potentiometer assembly. Ensure the new sensor's operating arm is installed at the correct angle.
Resolve hydraulic faults
If the sensor and wiring are good, test the lockout valve and the raising solenoid on the suspension valve block. Replace the solenoid or lockout valve assembly if burnt out or stuck. If the suspension struggles to lift or bounces constantly, replace the nitrogen accumulators.
Perform auto-calibration
CRITICAL STEP: Anytime a mechanical repair is made, a potentiometer is replaced, or a PWM solenoid valve is replaced, use the tractor's H-Menu or a diagnostic tool to run the Suspended Front Axle Calibration Procedure so the system can learn the new height values.
