NH15010

Case IH NH15010 – Fast Steer Controller (KA): Fast Steer Safety Switch Failure

Issue description

The system has detected a failure in the redundant safety switch within the Fast Steer system during its self-test. The Fast Steer system is an optional feature that allows for quicker steering response at low speeds. This fault indicates that the safety switch is not functioning as expected, which may prevent the machine from operating safely. The issue typically stems from a failed switch, damaged wiring, or a malfunctioning control module.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma 165
  • Puma 185
  • Puma 210
  • Puma 220
  • Maxxum 110
  • Maxxum 115
  • Maxxum 125
  • Maxxum 135
  • Maxxum 140

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the Fast Steer system for any visible damage, corrosion, or loose connections

  2. Using a multimeter, verify that there is power at the safety switch's input and output terminals

  3. Test the switch for continuity: with the switch disconnected, use a multimeter to check if the switch opens and closes correctly when actuated. A lack of continuity when the switch should be closed indicates a failed switch

  4. Use a professional diagnostic tool, such as the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), to read fault codes, monitor real-time data from the controller, and perform system tests

  5. Review the operator's manual for any specific information regarding the Fast Steer system and its safety features

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the fault

Perform the diagnostic checks to confirm if the fault lies with the switch, wiring, or controller.

  2. Replace or repair faulty component

If the safety switch is identified as faulty (e.g., fails continuity test), replace it. If the wiring is damaged, repair or replace the affected harness. In the rare case of a controller failure, replace the Fast Steer Controller.

  3. Clear fault codes

After the repair, use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code from the Fast Steer Controller.

  4. Test the system

Operate the Fast Steer system to ensure it is functioning correctly and that the fault code does not reappear.
