NH4010

Case IH NH4010 – ARU: Auxiliary Stick Signal Out of Range High

Issue description

The Armrest Control Unit (ARU) has detected a voltage signal from the auxiliary joystick for the third remote valve (AUX3) that exceeds the expected maximum threshold. This out-of-range high signal indicates a potential short circuit to a power source, a faulty sensor potentiometer within the joystick, or compromised signal integrity in the wiring harness.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma 115
  • Puma 125
  • Puma 130
  • Puma 140
  • Puma 145
  • Puma 155
  • Puma 160
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 180
  • Puma 195
  • Puma 210
  • T6000
  • Maxxum

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the armrest and the AUX3 joystick for pinched, chafed, or melted wires, and corrosion

  2. Determine if the fault is constant or intermittent to help isolate wiring versus component failure

  3. Access the 'HH' diagnostic menu through the instrument cluster to observe real-time data from the AUX3 joystick (look for an abnormally high and static reading)

  4. Disconnect the joystick and measure the resistance of the potentiometer across its terminals while operating the lever (resistance should change smoothly)

  5. Test the signal wire for voltage to check for a short to a power source (e.g., reading close to 5V or 12V reference)

  6. Check for continuity and short circuits in the harness between the joystick and the armrest control unit

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the fault

Use the diagnostic checks to determine if the root cause lies with the joystick component, the wiring harness, or the Armrest Control Unit (ARU).

  2. Repair wiring

If damaged wiring or corroded connectors are found, repair or replace them. Ensure all connections are clean and secure.

  3. Replace joystick assembly

If the joystick potentiometer fails the resistance test, replace the joystick assembly. This typically involves disassembling parts of the armrest.

  4. Calibrate the new component

After replacing the joystick or repairing the circuit, perform a calibration through the 'HH' diagnostic menu. Consult the official service manual for the exact auxiliary remote valve calibration procedure.

  5. Clear fault codes

Clear the stored fault codes using the 'HH' menu or a compatible diagnostic tool.

  6. Verify repair

Operate the AUX3 joystick and monitor the system to ensure the fault code does not return.
