NH4152

Case IH NH4152 – ARM: Remote No.4 Driver Faulty

Issue description

The fault code NH4152 indicates an electrical malfunction within the control circuit for the number four electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve. The Armrest Control Module (ARM) has detected an issue such as an open circuit, a short circuit, or an abnormal current draw on the output that controls the #4 remote valve solenoid. This signifies that the electrical command from the controller is not being executed correctly, which is typically an electrical or wiring issue rather than a mechanical or hydraulic failure of the valve itself.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma 125
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 185
  • Puma 195
  • Puma 225
  • Puma 240
  • Maxxum

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading from the armrest control unit to the #4 remote valve block at the rear of the tractor for chafing, pinching, corrosion, or rodent damage.

  2. Perform a swap test by exchanging the electrical connectors between the #4 valve solenoids and a known working remote valve (e.g., #3). If the fault code changes to the other remote, the issue is with the solenoid; if it remains on #4, the problem is in the harness or controller.

  3. Perform a solenoid resistance test by disconnecting the #4 solenoid and measuring across its two pins with a multimeter. A healthy solenoid typically reads 5-15 Ohms (infinite indicates an open circuit, near zero indicates a short).

  4. Perform a voltage test at the solenoid connector by back-probing the wires with the tractor running. Move the #4 remote lever; voltage should read 0V at neutral and increase to approximately 5V at full detent.

  5. Check hydraulic fluid levels and ensure filters are not severely clogged to rule out baseline hydraulic erratic behavior.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare machine for service

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, shut down the engine, and relieve any stored hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers back and forth.

  2. Access the remote valve block

Locate the electro-hydraulic remote valves in the stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify the #4 valve slice and its corresponding extend and retract solenoids.

  3. Perform diagnostic checks

Follow the diagnostic steps outlined above to isolate the faulty component (wiring, solenoid, or controller).

  4. Repair wiring harness

If visual inspection or voltage testing reveals a wiring fault, repair the damaged section of the harness using appropriate connectors and sealing methods to prevent moisture ingress.

  5. Replace the solenoid

If the solenoid fails the resistance or swap test, unscrew the retaining nut, carefully slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem, install the new solenoid, and tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specification. Reconnect the electrical connector.

  6. Replace the valve section

If the solenoid is not available separately or the mechanical valve itself is faulty, replace the entire hydraulic valve section for the #4 remote. This requires disconnecting hydraulic lines and managing fluid loss.

  7. Replace Armrest Controller

If all wiring and solenoids test correctly, the Armrest Control Module (ARM) may be faulty. Replacement is the most expensive repair and typically requires programming or calibration by a qualified dealer.
