Case IH P01 – Tractor Electronic Management Unit: Rear PTO Brake Solenoid Stuck Off

The system has detected that the rear PTO brake solenoid circuit is shorted to ground, or there is an internal module failure preventing the solenoid from engaging.

   With the key start OFF, disconnect the rear PTO brake solenoid connector (often labeled C033, X277, or X278 depending on the model year/series).

   Turn the key start ON and verify if Error P01 is still actively displayed.

   With the key start OFF, use a multimeter to check the resistance of the solenoid coil. The resistance should measure between 5 to 11 Ohms (Ω).

   Using a multimeter, check for a short circuit in the wiring harness between the electronic management unit and the ground unit.

   Wiring Repair

   If the multimeter test reveals a short circuit to ground in the harness between the electronic management unit and the solenoid, repair or replace the affected wiring harness section.

   Solenoid Replacement

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil resistance is outside the 5–11Ω specification (or if the valve is mechanically stuck), replace the Rear PTO Brake Solenoid/Coil.

   Clear Codes

   After the repair is complete, clear the DTC errors using the tractor's H-Menu or an appropriate CNH diagnostic tool to ensure the system resets properly.
