P02

Case IH P02 – EMU (Electronic Management Unit): Rear PTO Brake Solenoid Stuck On

Issue description

The rear PTO brake solenoid circuit is shorted to a +12V power source, or there is an internal hardware failure within the control module.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM Series
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 175

Check the cause

  1. Turn the keystart to the ON position and ensure that the FWD (Front-Wheel Drive) and Differential Lock are disengaged

  2. Turn the keystart OFF

  3. Set the PTO brake switch to the 'brake applied' position

  4. Set both the front and rear PTO engagement switches to the 'disengaged' position

  5. Turn the keystart ON again and observe the dash/display to see if errors P02 and P03 are displayed together

  6. Test the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO brake solenoid for voltage shorts to a +12V power source

Repair steps

  1. Wiring Inspection

Trace the wiring harness from the EMU to the Rear PTO Brake Solenoid. Look for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires causing a short to +12V. Repair any damaged sections of the harness.

  2. Solenoid Testing/Replacement

If the wiring is intact, test the solenoid itself for an internal short. If the solenoid is stuck or electrically failed, remove the faulty PTO brake solenoid valve from the transmission/PTO valve block and install a new OEM replacement.

  3. Module Verification

If the wiring is verified good and a new solenoid does not resolve the P02 code, the fault lies in the Electronic Management Unit (EMU) module failure. The EMU will need to be replaced or repaired.

  4. Clear and Retest

Cycle the key OFF and ON, and use the PTO switches to verify the fault code has cleared and the PTO brake engages/disengages properly.
