P0562

Case IH P0562 – DCU: Battery Voltage Evaluation Below Lower Limit

Issue description

The Dosing Control Unit (DCU) or other control modules have detected that the power supply from the battery has dropped below the specified lower limit, typically under 10-11.5 volts. This low voltage condition impairs the functionality of the systems controlled by that module, particularly the emissions and aftertreatment systems, and affects the proper operation of the tractor's overall electrical system.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum 235
  • Magnum 260
  • Magnum 290
  • Magnum 315
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 370
  • Maxxum Series
  • Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Confirm the fault using a diagnostic scanner and note any other present fault codes that may be related

  2. Inspect battery voltage with a multimeter directly at the terminals with the engine off (a healthy battery should read approximately 12.6 volts; below 12.4 volts indicates a weak battery)

  3. Perform a battery load test to determine if the battery can maintain voltage under load

  4. Test alternator output by starting the engine and measuring voltage at the battery terminals (should be between 13.7 and 14.7 volts)

  5. Visually inspect battery terminals, cables, and main ground connections for corrosion, damage, or looseness

  6. Examine the wiring harnesses connected to the relevant control modules for chafing or breaks, and check fuses related to the charging and aftertreatment systems

Repair steps

  1. Address battery and connection issues

If the battery failed the load test, replace it with a new OEM-spec battery. Clean any corrosion from terminals and cable ends using a wire brush and baking soda/water mixture. Ensure connections are tight and replace any damaged cables or ground straps.

  2. Repair or replace the alternator

If the alternator output was found to be low (below 13.7 volts) during testing, repair or replace the alternator assembly.

  3. Inspect and repair wiring

If diagnostic checks point to a wiring issue, carefully trace the harness to the affected control module (e.g., the DCU). Repair any frayed or broken wires and ensure all connectors are clean, free of moisture, and securely fastened.

  4. Address control module issues

If all other potential causes have been ruled out, the DCU itself may be faulty and need replacement. This should be performed by a qualified technician as the new module may require programming.

  5. Clear fault codes and verify repair

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the P0562 fault code. Operate the tractor under normal conditions to ensure the code does not reappear.
