P06

Case IH P06 – Electronic Draft Control (EDC) / Rear PTO Controller: Rear PTO Not Calibrated

Issue description

The electronic control system has lost the calibration values for the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch engagement, or the non-volatile memory has been reset, preventing the PTO from operating smoothly or starting at all.

Check the cause

  1. Check for active codes for the PTO speed sensor (e.g., P27 / 5027) or cab/fender PTO switches (e.g., P33, P34, 5033, 5034) to ensure no hardware faults are preventing calibration.

  2. Ensure transmission oil is warmed up to the required operating temperature (60°C - 105°C).

  3. Ensure the tractor is parked on level ground, the parking brake is applied, and the ground speed display reads zero.

  4. Verify the air conditioning system is switched off and all electro-hydraulic units/services are deselected to prevent parasitic draw.

Repair steps

  1. Warm up fluid

Warm up the transmission fluid to the required operating temperature (60°C - 105°C).

  2. Prepare tractor

Turn off the engine, apply the parking brake, and ensure all EDC and hydraulic controls are in their neutral/deselected positions.

  3. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the CNH Diagnostic Tool (Tool No. 380000488) to the black diagnostic connector located beneath the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) operator panel.

  4. Enter diagnostic mode

Start the tractor and enter the diagnostic "H-Menu" mode.

  5. Navigate menu

Navigate to the "HF" menu, which is designated for "Manual Calibration for rear PTO".

  6. Initiate calibration

Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate the calibration. The display will typically show "CAL" and numbers will increase as the controller learns the clutch fill times and engagement points.

  7. Complete calibration

Hold the required inputs until the display reads "END", signifying the calibration is complete.

  8. Verify repair

Turn off the tractor, disconnect the diagnostic tool, and restart to verify the P06 code has cleared.
