Case IH P07 – Electronic Management Unit (EMU) / Transmission Microprocessor: Rear PTO Solenoid Over Current
Issue description
The electrical circuit controlling the Rear Power Take-Off (PTO) solenoid is drawing more current than expected, which typically means the circuit has shorted to ground or there is an internal failure (short) within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Battery Reset: Disconnect the tractor's battery for a short period to reset the electronic control systems and see if the code clears (though a hard short will cause it to return immediately).
H-Menu Diagnostics: On MXM series tractors, you can use the H-Menu (Channel 6) to check the 12-volt input to the microprocessor for the Rear PTO control.
Wiring Inspection: Because this is an over current code, physically inspect the wiring harness leading to the Rear PTO solenoid for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could be shorting directly to the tractor's chassis (ground).
Solenoid Resistance Test: Test the Rear PTO solenoid with a multimeter to check for an internal short circuit.
Repair steps
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the Rear PTO solenoid, which is typically mounted on the transmission valve block (refer to your specific model's service manual for exact placement).
Isolate the Short
Disconnect the wiring harness from the Rear PTO solenoid. Turn the key on and attempt to engage the PTO (or run a diagnostic test) to see if the over-current code persists. If the code changes to an open circuit code (like P08 or P03), the wiring is likely fine, and the solenoid itself is internally shorted. If the P07 code remains, the short to ground is in the wiring harness between the EMU and the solenoid connector.
Repair or Replace
If the wiring harness is damaged, splice and repair the broken wires using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the affected harness section. If the solenoid is internally shorted, unbolt the faulty solenoid valve from the transmission block and install a new OEM replacement.
Clear Codes
After the physical repair, use a specialized CNH diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard diagnostic interface) to clear the DTC. Clearing codes without fixing the root cause will result in the code returning.
Recalibrate
Depending on the model, you may need to run a Rear PTO calibration procedure after replacing transmission/PTO electrical components.
