Case IH P13 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Power Control Unit (PCU): Test Shut Off Paths, Data Valid But Above Normal Range
Issue description
The control module is monitoring its internal or external safety shut-off circuits. The module is receiving a signal that is formatted correctly (data valid), but the voltage or current reading is higher than the expected normal operating threshold.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes that might indicate a broader electrical issue (e.g., T14, T15, or T17)
Verify system voltage to ensure the alternator is not overcharging and the battery voltage is stable
Visually inspect the wiring harness connecting to the ECU/PCU for chafing, melted insulation, or moisture
Use a multimeter to test the voltage on the shut-off path circuits at the ECU connector to verify the out-of-range data
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Inspect ECU/PCU Connectors
Locate the Engine/Power Control Unit. Carefully disconnect the main wiring harnesses.
Clean and Reseat
Inspect the pins on both the module and the harness side for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins. Clean with a dedicated electrical contact cleaner and allow to dry.
Trace the Shut-Off Circuit
Follow the service manual wiring diagram for your specific model to trace the "Shut-Off Signal" wire from the ECU to the fuel shut-off solenoid or main power relay.
Test for Resistance/Shorts
Measure the resistance of the wire to ground and to the power supply. If there is a partial short to a power source (causing the "above normal range" reading), locate the damaged section of the harness and repair or replace it.
Test Relays
Swap the main power and shut-off relays with known good relays, as a sticking relay can feed improper voltage back to the ECU.
Re-test
Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and cycle the key. If the wiring tests perfectly but the T13 code immediately returns, the ECU likely has an internal hardware failure on its monitoring circuit and will require replacement or professional remanufacturing.
