P15

Case IH P15 – Transmission / Drivetrain Control Module: Differential Lock Solenoid Stuck Off

Issue description

The electronic control system has detected that the differential lock solenoid is failing to engage, either due to a mechanical sticking issue within the valve itself, a lack of voltage/ground, or an open circuit preventing the solenoid from activating.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 175

Check the cause

  1. System Reset: Disconnect the tractor's battery for a short period to reset the electronic control systems and clear transient errors (check operator's manual first).

  2. Visual & Electrical Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the differential lock solenoid. Check the 2-terminal plug-and-harness connector for frayed wires, corrosion inside the connector, or an open circuit.

  3. Professional Diagnostics: If a battery reset and wiring check do not resolve the code, use appropriate dealer diagnostic tools to prevent clearing codes without addressing the root cause.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, place all shift levers in neutral, lower all equipment to the ground, block the wheels, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the differential lock solenoid on the hydraulic control valve block (location varies slightly by model, but it is part of the transmission/hydraulic control system).

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the 2-terminal harness connector from the solenoid.

  4. Remove and Replace

Unthread/remove the faulty solenoid from the hydraulic block and install the replacement unit.

  5. Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the 2-terminal plug, reconnect the battery, and start the tractor.

  6. Calibration

Depending on the model (especially MXM series), enter the H-Menu to recalibrate the transmission and steering angle sensors after hydraulic/transmission repairs.
