Case IH P16 – Tractor Electronic Management Unit (EMU): Differential Lock Solenoid Stuck On
Issue description
The electronic management system has detected that the solenoid responsible for engaging the differential lock is remaining in the energized or open position. As a result, the differential lock stays engaged even when the operator or the auto-management system attempts to disengage it.

Check the cause
Check Solenoid Resistance: Measure the resistance of the differential lock solenoid. It should read between 5 and 11 Ohms (Ω). If it is outside this range, the solenoid is internally faulty.
Check for Shorts to Ground: With the keystart in the OFF position, disconnect connector C105 from the Electronic Management Unit. Using a multi-meter, check if a short to ground is indicated at the Electronic Management Unit pin C105-36. If a short is present, disconnect connector C019 (at the solenoid) and check again to isolate whether the short is in the wiring harness between C105 and C019.
Repair steps
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks reveal a short to ground between the EMU (C105) and the solenoid (C019), trace the wiring harness and repair the damaged/chafed wire causing the short.
Solenoid Replacement
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid resistance is out of the 5–11Ω specification, or if the valve is mechanically stuck open despite having no electrical power, the differential lock solenoid valve must be replaced.
Reassembly and Testing
Reconnect all harnesses (C105 and C019). Clear the fault codes from the EMU. Test the tractor by driving it and engaging/disengaging the manual and auto differential lock switches to ensure the code does not return and the axle unlocks properly.
