Case IH P19 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Management System: Fuel Quantity Shut-Off, Data Valid But Above Normal Range
Issue description
The control module is receiving a readable, valid data signal from the fuel quantity shut-off solenoid/valve, but the electrical value (typically voltage or resistance) is registering higher than the maximum threshold of the normal operating range. This usually points to a failing solenoid coil (increasing resistance), a partial short to a high-voltage source, or a wiring harness issue. Note: Fault code P19 is listed as 'Not used' in transmission and steering calibration guides; the description corresponds to Engine Error Code T19.

Check the cause
Verify the Code: Confirm on the digital instrument cluster that the code is T19 (Engine) rather than P19 (which is an unused transmission/steering slot).
Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the wiring leading to the fuel shut-off solenoid on the injection pump. Look for chafed wires that might be shorting to a high-voltage source (which would trigger the 'Above Normal Range' parameter).
Check the Connector: Disconnect the solenoid pigtail and check for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins that could skew the data signal.
Test the Solenoid: Use a multimeter to check the voltage reaching the solenoid (should be a standard 12V signal). Test the internal resistance of the solenoid coil; if it is out of spec, the solenoid is failing internally.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.
Locate the Valve
Locate the fuel shut-off solenoid, typically mounted directly on the fuel injection pump.
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
Unplug the electrical connector. Unbolt and carefully remove the solenoid from the pump housing. Be prepared to catch a small amount of diesel fuel.
Install the New Part
Clean the mounting surface. Install the new 12V fuel shut-off solenoid and tighten to OEM torque specs.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on to clear the stored T19 fault code, and start the engine to ensure the fuel shut-off valve operates correctly and the code does not return.
