Case IH P5C – Transmission Controller / Electronic Management Unit (EMU) and Engine Controller: Reverse Polarity Of Engine Speed Sensor, Data Valid But Above Normal Range

The controller is receiving a signal from the engine speed sensor with reversed electrical polarity (often due to swapped wires or a short), and the signal amplitude or frequency is higher than the programmed threshold (which can happen if the sensor's internal resistance fails or if the sensor is mounted too close to the tone ring/flywheel).

   Verify the code is T5C (3001-0) via the H-Menu or Electronic Service Tool, as digital dashes often display T5C as P5C.

   Inspect the engine speed sensor connector and wiring harness for swapped pins, improper repairs, or damaged insulation causing a short.

   Check the sensor mounting and air gap to ensure it is securely mounted and has not been pushed too far into the housing.

   Test the engine speed sensor for internal shorts if the wiring to the controller is intact and pinned correctly.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, place all shift levers in neutral, block the wheels, and disconnect the battery to protect the CAN-bus modules.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the engine speed sensor (typically mounted on the engine block near the crankshaft or on the bell housing reading the flywheel).

   Replace the Sensor

   Disconnect the wiring harness. Remove the retaining bolt and pull the old sensor out. Install the new OEM engine speed sensor and tighten to factory spec.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the harness and the battery. Turn the key switch to the 'ON' position and use the tractor's diagnostic display to clear the inactive T5C code.

   Recalibrate (If Necessary)

   Perform an H1 Clutch and Synchroniser Calibration. Start the engine, set the engine speed to 1200 ERPM, and follow the H1 calibration prompts on the transmission display until 'CAL' is complete.
