Case IH P6 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Management Unit (EMU) or Transmission Control Unit (TCU): CAN AE Message (Torque Set point), Data Incorrect
Issue description
A Controller Area Network (CAN) communication error indicating that the torque setpoint data being transmitted across the CAN bus (typically between the transmission and the engine) is being received, but the data itself is invalid, corrupted, or incorrect.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MXM
- Case IH MXM 120
- Case IH MXM 130
- Case IH MXM 140
- Case IH MXM 155
- Case IH MXM 175
- Case IH MXM 190
Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes such as T7 ('CAN AE Message (Torque Set point), Data Valid But Above Normal Range') to isolate if the sensor data is just out of range or completely corrupted
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness connecting the Engine ECU and the Transmission controller for chafed wires, pinches, or exposed copper
Disconnect and inspect the main harness connectors at the ECU and TCU for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins
Verify the controllers are receiving proper operating voltage, as low voltage can cause CAN modules to broadcast corrupted data
Repair steps
Clean and secure connections
Clean and secure all CAN bus connections between the engine and transmission modules.
Repair wiring
Repair any damaged sections of the CAN wiring harness.
Perform calibration
If a controller (microprocessor) is deemed faulty and replaced, or if the non-volatile memory has been reset, you must perform a Transmission/EDC Calibration Set Up Procedure.
Clear codes and test drive
Clear the fault codes using an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or via the tractor's H-Menu (diagnostic mode) and test drive to verify the torque setpoint data is now reading correctly.
Parts you might need
