Case IH P66 – PCU (Powertrain Control Unit) or Engine Control Unit (ECU): IAT System, Data Valid But Below Normal Range
Issue description
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) system is sending a signal that is recognized as valid by the computer, but the temperature reading is falling below the normal expected operating range (abnormally cold). This typically points to high electrical resistance in the circuit, which can be caused by a failing sensor, a loose connection, or corroded wiring.

Check the cause
Locate the IAT sensor (often integrated into the MAP sensor on the intake manifold or boost piping). Check the wiring harness and the electrical connector for chafing, broken wires, or pushed-out pins.
Disconnect the IAT sensor and inspect the terminals for corrosion, moisture, or debris, which can cause the high resistance that triggers a 'below normal range' code.
Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's H-Menu diagnostic display to read the live Intake Air Temperature. Compare the reading to the actual ambient temperature. If the tractor has been sitting and the sensor reads significantly colder than the outside air, the sensor or circuit is faulty.
Test the sensor's resistance with a multimeter to see if it aligns with OEM specifications for the current ambient temperature.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable
to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the IAT or combined MAP/IAT sensor
on the clean-air induction tract or intake manifold.
Depress the locking tab and carefully disconnect the electrical wiring harness
from the sensor.
Remove the retaining bolt(s) or unthread the sensor
from the manifold.
Clean the mounting port on the intake manifold
ensuring no dirt or debris falls into the engine.
Install the new OEM sensor
If it uses an O-ring, lightly lubricate it with clean engine oil before pressing it into place. Secure it with the retaining hardware.
Reconnect the electrical connector
until it clicks securely.
Reconnect the battery
Start the engine and use the tractor's diagnostic interface or an EST to clear the T66 fault code
Verify that the live IAT data now reads correctly.
