Case IH P7 – Electronic Engine Control Unit (ECU) or PTO/Hand Throttle Controller (XCM): CAN AE Message (Torque Set point), Data Valid But Above Normal Range
Issue description
A communication anomaly on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN bus) where the control module is receiving a torque setpoint (demand) message that is properly formatted and readable, but the actual numerical value of the torque demand is higher than the maximum allowed threshold programmed into the system.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes (such as T1-T4 for Throttle Position Sensor, or T5/T6 for other CAN AE Message errors) to see if a faulty throttle input is causing the out-of-range demand
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness bridging the Engine ECU, the Transmission controller, and the XCM for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or rodent damage
Disconnect the main harness connectors at the ECU and XCM and inspect for bent pins, moisture intrusion, or corrosion
Check if the tractor's ECU or VCM requires a software update, as outdated firmware can misinterpret torque demands
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Hook up the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port to verify if T7 is an active or stored (historic) code.
Perform Visual & Multimeter Inspection
If the code is active, use a multimeter to test the CAN High and CAN Low resistance (should typically be around 60 ohms across the network with the battery disconnected).
Clean and Reseat
Spray electrical contact cleaner on the ECU and XCM connectors. Apply dielectric grease and securely reseat them.
Calibrate Sensors
Run a calibration procedure for the foot throttle and hand throttle/PTO using the EST or the tractor's H-Menu (Calibration mode), as an uncalibrated throttle can send an artificially high torque demand.
Clear and Test
Clear the fault codes from the EIC/ECU. Start the tractor and operate the throttle and PTO under load to see if the T7 code returns.
