Case IH P8 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Vehicle Control Unit (PCU/Transmission Controller): Ambient Pressure Sensor, Grounded Or Current Above Normal Range
Issue description
The signal circuit for the ambient (barometric) pressure sensor is shorted to ground, or the electrical current on the circuit has exceeded the normal operating range, preventing the machine from accurately reading atmospheric pressure.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the ambient pressure sensor for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points where the signal wire might be shorting against the chassis.
Disconnect the sensor, turn the key to the ON position, and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) and has a clean ground.
Test the signal wire from the sensor connector back to the ECU harness for continuity to ground. If there is continuity to ground while both ends are unplugged, the wiring harness has a short.
If the wiring harness tests perfectly, the internal circuitry of the sensor itself has likely failed and shorted out.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent ECU damage.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the ambient pressure sensor (on many Case IH engines, this is integrated into or located near the inlet manifold air pressure/temperature sensor).
Harness Repair
If your diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground in the harness, splice and solder the damaged section of the wire, then seal it with heat-shrink tubing.
Sensor Replacement
If the harness is good, remove the mounting bolt(s) holding the ambient pressure sensor. Pull the old sensor out and install the replacement. Torque to OEM specifications and reconnect the electrical pigtail.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key switch to the 'ON' position. Use the tractor's H-Menu or an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive t8 fault code from the non-volatile memory.
Recalibrate
Perform a transmission/EDC calibration setup procedure after clearing the code, ensuring the engine is at the specified RPM (e.g., 1200 ERPM) and transmission fluid is between 20–50°C.
