Case IH P93 – PCU (Power Control Unit): Reserve 1, Data Valid But Above Normal Range

The 'Reserve 1' unused input pin on the controller is receiving a voltage signal that is higher than expected (FMI 0). Because this is an unused input, this code almost always indicates a wiring issue, specifically a short to power (voltage bleeding into the reserved pin from an adjacent live wire) or an internal short within the controller itself.

   Verify the Code: Confirm the code is t93 on the instrument cluster.

   Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the PCU for chafing, melted insulation, or pinch points.

   Connector Check: Disconnect the PCU connectors and inspect for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Resistance/Continuity Testing: With the battery disconnected and the PCU unplugged, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the reserved pins and adjacent power pins in the harness to isolate a short.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn the key switch to the OFF position and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical damage.

   Locate and Isolate the PCU

   Locate the Power Control Unit and carefully unplug the main harness connectors.

   Clean the Terminals

   If any green corrosion or moisture is present, thoroughly clean the connectors and PCU pins. OEM service manuals recommend using a Freon T.F. base electrical contact cleaner.

   Repair the Harness

   If you found chafed or exposed wires during your diagnostic checks, repair them using heat-shrink tubing and electrical tape. Ensure the harness is routed away from sharp chassis edges.

   Test the System

   Reconnect the PCU and the battery. Turn the key switch ON. If the code clears, the issue was a harness short or connector bridge.

   Replace the PCU (If Necessary)

   If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine and the connectors are clean, the PCU has an internal short circuit. You will need to replace the PCU.

   Recalibrate

   If the PCU is replaced, you must perform a full Transmission/EDC Calibration (using the H-Menu setup procedures) to teach the new controller the clutch fill times and synchronizer positions.
