Case IH PC6 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Driveline Electronic Controller (DEC) / Transmission Control Unit: PTO Twist Sensor Not Calibrated
Issue description
The fault code indicates that the PTO (Power Take-Off) twist sensor lacks a valid calibration value. This code is triggered if the sensor has never been calibrated, if a previous calibration attempt failed (values were too high or too low), or if calibration was aborted because the tractor moved or the PTO was engaged during the procedure.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MXM
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH MXM Series
- Case IH Steiger Series
Check the cause
Verify that the tractor was completely stationary and the PTO was turned OFF during any recent calibration attempts (moving the tractor or engaging the PTO aborts calibration)
Inspect the wiring and connectors leading to the PTO twist sensor for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins
With the key OFF, disconnect the sensor and measure the resistance/continuity of the harness back to the controller to check for open circuits or shorts to ground
Perform a wiggle test on the harness during multimeter testing to check for intermittent connection issues
Repair steps
Clean Connections
If the diagnostic checks reveal poor contact at the sensor connector, clean the terminals (OEM manuals recommend a Freon T.F. base cleaner or equivalent electrical contact cleaner) and reconnect.
Repair Wiring
If an open or short circuit is found in the harness during the multimeter checks, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail.
Perform Calibration
If the wiring is intact, you must perform the PTO twist sensor calibration procedure via the tractor's diagnostic display/monitor. Ensure the air conditioning is switched off, all electro-hydraulic applications are deselected, the tractor is stationary, and the PTO is OFF.
Replace Sensor
If the calibration fails again (displaying a value too high or too low) or if the sensor is physically damaged/implausible, the PTO twist sensor itself has failed internally and must be replaced.
Final Calibration
After installing a new sensor, you must run the calibration procedure again to marry the new sensor to the DEC/ECM.
