PCC

Case IH PCC – Power Control Unit (PCU) / Transmission Control Module (TCM): PCU Initialization, Data Valid But Below Normal Range

Issue description

The controller is receiving data that is technically in a valid format, but the values fall below the normal operating threshold required to successfully complete the module's boot-up or initialization sequence. (Note: Official documentation lists this under Error Code TCC).

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM120
  • MXM130
  • MXM135
  • MXM140
  • MXM150
  • MXM155
  • MXM165
  • MXM175
  • MXM180
  • MXM190
  • MX Series
  • TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify PCU Power Supply: Check the voltage reaching the PCU, as low voltage can cause initialization failure.

  2. Check CAN Bus Lines: Inspect the CAN communication lines for shorts to ground or high sources.

  3. Inspect Harness and Connectors: Check the wiring harness leading to the Transmission Control Module for chafing, corrosion, or bent pins.

  4. Battery and Ground Check: Ensure the tractor's batteries are fully charged and the cab/chassis ground straps are clean and tight.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Locate the PCU/TCM

Access the Transmission Control Module (typically located under the right-hand console or behind the operator's seat, depending on the specific cab layout).

  3. Inspect Connections

Unplug the multi-pin connectors from the PCU. Spray with electrical contact cleaner and inspect for pushed-back pins or green corrosion.

  4. Test Voltage/Ground

Reconnect the battery. Using a multimeter, probe the power and ground pins on the harness side of the PCU connector to ensure it is receiving full alternator/battery voltage (usually 12V+) and has a solid ground.

  5. Recalibrate / Reset

If the wiring is sound, plug the module back in. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the tractor's diagnostic port. Attempt to clear the code and run the transmission calibration procedure.

  6. Replace Module

If the PCU still fails to initialize and throws the TCC code, the internal circuitry of the module has failed and the unit must be replaced.
