R14

Case IH R14 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Control Unit or Central Controller (XCM): Valve 1 Supply Under Voltage/Over Voltage Or Output Stage Faulty Or Transducer Faulty Or Spool Neutral Error Or Spool Not Neutral Error

Issue description

A multi-condition fault code indicating a failure in the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve 1 circuit or mechanics. The system has detected a voltage issue (under 8V or over 36/45V), an output stage/transducer fault, or a mechanical spool error (stuck or not in neutral).

Check the cause

  1. Test the voltage supply at the EHR Valve 1 connector to ensure it is receiving a stable 12V supply and is not dropping below 8V or surging.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the EHR Valve 1 and the Central Controller (XCM) for chafing, open circuits, short circuits to ground, or corroded pins.

  3. With the machine off and pressure relieved, check if the spool is physically jammed by debris.

  4. Verify that the EHR valve is communicating properly with the controller via the tractor's H-Menu diagnostics.

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Fault

Swap the electrical connector from EHR Valve 1 to EHR Valve 2. If the fault code changes to R24 (Valve 2 Supply/Spool Error), the issue is internal to the valve itself. If the code remains R14, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the XCM controller.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the harness is faulty, repair the broken wires or replace the connector pigtail.

  3. Valve Replacement/Rebuild

If the valve is the culprit (faulty transducer or stuck spool), remove the EHR Valve 1 assembly. You can attempt to replace the internal/external O-rings and clean the spool, but a failed internal transducer or output stage requires replacing the Electro-Hydraulic Valve Head or the entire spool valve assembly.

  4. System Calibration

After repairing or replacing the valve, recalibrate the EHR system. Using the tractor's instrument cluster, enter the H-Menu (specifically the HL menu for EHR valve number reprogramming). Install a diagnostic test switch (Tool No. 380000488) and operate the No. 1 EHR Valve timer switch to activate the calibration procedure so the controller recognizes the new valve limits.
