Case IH R16 – XCM: EHR Control Unit 1 Full Flow Switch Error
Issue description
The central controller is receiving an out-of-range, missing, or corrupted electrical signal from the full flow switch or flow control potentiometer associated with the #1 remote valve. This prevents the controller from accurately determining the operator's flow command for that specific valve.

Check the cause
Perform H-Menu Switch Test: Enter the tractor's onboard diagnostic H-Menu (H5 menu) to check if the flow switch/potentiometer for Valve 1 is registering a signal.
Isolate the Component (Pod Swap): Swap the electrical plug connections between EHR control pod 1 and pod 2 on the armrest. If the error code shifts to the Valve 2 equivalent (e.g., R26), the fault is isolated to the physical switch/lever assembly in the cab. If the R16 code persists, the issue lies in the wiring harness or the valve itself.
Inspect Wiring Harness: Test the wiring harness for continuity and shorts. Trace the harness from the armrest controls to the XCM controller, and from the controller back to the remote valve pilot heads.
Check Potentiometer Range: Ensure the flow control potentiometer (the long bar on the console) is not physically jammed, broken, or pushed out of its readable range.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Replace Faulty Component
If the switch is faulty: Remove the armrest/console cover, disconnect the wiring pigtail for the #1 EHR lever/switch assembly, and install the replacement switch pod. If the valve actuator is faulty: Navigate to the rear remote valve stack. Remove and replace the electronic pilot head/actuator on Valve 1.
Reassemble and Power Up
Reconnect all harnesses, reassemble the armrest, and reconnect the battery.
Calibrate the EHR Valves
Start the tractor and enter the H1 calibration menu. Follow the instrument cluster prompts: Pull the #1 lever into the raise detent position. Turn the flow control to maximum flow (long bar) and pull #1 to the raise detent position again to complete the calibration for that valve.
