Case IH R17 – XCM (Central Controller / Multi-function Control Module): No Communication Between The EHR Valve 1 And The Central Controller (XCM)

The Central Controller has lost the CAN bus signal or data link communication with the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve 1.

   Verify if EHR Valve 1 is reserved for front hitch or front loader operation in the instrument cluster menu.

   Disconnect the tractor's battery for a short period to reset the electronic control systems and clear transient CAN bus errors.

   Check the CAN bus wiring harness and connectors between EHR Valve 1 and the XCM processor for opens, shorts to ground, or corrosion.

   Use a specialized Case IH/New Holland diagnostic tool to read and attempt to clear the hitch/EHR errors to see if the code is active or stored.

   Isolate the Fault

   If the wiring harness between the EHR Valve 1 and the XCM is intact and has continuity, the fault lies in either the EHR Valve 1 internal module or the XCM processor.

   Test with a Known Good Module

   Temporarily replace the XCM processor with one of known performance to see if communication is restored.

   Replace the Faulty Component

   If the test XCM restores communication, replace the XCM. If the fault persists, the EHR Valve 1 itself has a failed internal communication circuit and must be replaced.

   Calibration

   If the microprocessor (XCM) or a PWM solenoid valve (EHR valve) has been replaced, you must perform a Transmission/EDC Calibration setup procedure. Start the engine, hold the High and Low range buttons until "CAL" appears in the transmission display, set engine speed to 1200 ERPM, and follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the new components.
