Case IH R21 – EHR Control Unit: EHR Control Unit 2 Float Switch Error

The system has detected an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or implausible signal) specifically in the float switch circuit that controls the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve number 2.

   Enter the tractor's H-Menu (H5 menu) to verify if the switch inputs are being recognized by the controller to rule out a mechanical sticking issue versus an electrical failure.

   With the key OFF, inspect the EHR 2 control lever/paddle and float switch on the armrest console. Disconnect the affected connectors and inspect for bent pins, corrosion, or backed-out terminals.

   Use a multimeter to measure the circuit resistance. Ensure the power is OFF and connectors at both ends of the circuit are disconnected to prevent false readings. Check for open circuits or shorts to ground.

   Temporarily swap the electrical plugs between EHR pod 1 and EHR pod 2 to see if the fault follows the switch or stays with the valve to isolate the issue.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, switch off the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Access the Armrest Console

   Remove the necessary trim panels on the armrest to access the EHR control levers and switches.

   Remove the Faulty Switch/Lever

   Disconnect the electrical connector for the EHR 2 switch/lever assembly. Remove the retaining screws (often M4 hex socket screws) and extract the faulty switch or joystick component.

   Install the New Component

   Fit the replacement float switch or lever assembly into the armrest and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect and Reassemble

   Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connector clicks into place securely. Reinstall the armrest covers.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key ON. Enter the H-Menu (specifically H1) to perform the EHR valve calibration procedure so the controller learns the parameters of the new switch/lever. Clear the stored fault codes.
