R24

Case IH R24 – Central Controller (XCM) or EHR Control Unit: Valve 2 Supply Under Voltage/Over Voltage Or Output Stage Faulty Or Transducer Faulty Or Spool Neutral Error Or Spool Not Neutral Error

Issue description

A malfunction within the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) system affecting Valve 2. This is caused by electrical conditions (voltage out of range, faulty output stage, or failed position transducer) or mechanical conditions (spool physically stuck or not in neutral when switched on).

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM Series
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 175
  • MXM 190
  • Steiger
  • Magnum
  • Puma
  • Optum

Check the cause

  1. Check if the code is a false positive caused by outdated XCM software.

  2. Run the H5 Switch Test in the onboard H-menu to verify that the switches and controls for the remotes are communicating properly with the controller.

  3. Inspect the EHR control valve wiring harness and connectors between the XCM controller and Valve 2 for damaged wires, corrosion, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

  4. Test the voltage supply at the valve to ensure it is within the normal operating range (not dropping below 8V or spiking over 36V/45V).

  5. Check for mechanical binding to determine if the spool is physically stuck and cannot return to the neutral position.

Repair steps

  1. Update Software

If diagnostics point to a software glitch, have a dealer update the XCM controller software to the latest version.

  2. Repair/Replace Wiring

If the harness fails the continuity or voltage tests, repair the damaged section or replace the EHR control valve wiring harness.

  3. Replace the Pilot Head / Valve

If the electrical supply is correct but the valve fails to operate or throws transducer/neutral errors, the pilot head (the electronic module that controls the remote valve) or the entire EHR valve section must be replaced.

  4. Reassign Valve Addresses

After replacing the pilot head or valve, you must reassign the valve addresses in the system so the controller recognizes which cab lever controls Valve 2.

  5. Calibrate the EHR System

Perform the EHR calibration procedure. This can be initiated via the onboard H-menu (H1 routine for calibrations) or by using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
