Case IH R33 – Central Controller (XCM) / EHR Control Unit: CAN Messages Received By The EHR Valve 3 Are Corrupted Or Missing

There is a Controller Area Network (CAN) communication failure specifically isolated to the third Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve. The central system is either receiving garbled data from this specific valve's internal module or has lost communication with it entirely.

   Check for accompanying codes to rule out a broader CAN bus error that could be isolating Valve 3

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the AUX controller status and carry out a complete CAN bus diagnostic check

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear remote valve stack, specifically checking the electrical connector at EHR Valve 3 for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture ingress

   Test for open or short circuits in the CAN network wiring leading directly to the Valve 3 section

   Depressurize

   Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the remote valves. Disconnect the battery.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness from EHR Valve 3. Unbolt the tie-rods/mounting bolts holding the remote valve stack together and carefully remove the faulty EHR Valve 3 section.

   Installation

   Install the new EHR valve section with new O-rings (e.g., BEPCO-R33 or equivalent OEM seals). Torque the stack bolts to OEM specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibration / Reprogramming

   Install the diagnostic test switch (Tool No. 380000488) with all remote valves connected to the harness. Turn the Key Start switch to the 'ON' position. Using the Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC), enter the H-menu and select Mode HL (EHR Valve Number Reprogramming). Operate the No.1 EHR Valve timer switch 3 times in quick succession to activate the reprogramming procedure. Follow the EIC prompts to assign the correct position number (3) to the newly installed valve.
