R34

Case IH R34 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Control Unit / Central Controller (XCM): Valve 3 Supply Under Voltage/Over Voltage Or Output Stage Faulty Or Transducer Faulty Or Spool Neutral Error Or Spool Not Neutral Error

Issue description

Indicates a critical electrical or mechanical failure at the #3 Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve. The system has detected a voltage supply issue, output stage fault, transducer fault, or spool neutral error.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • Case IH MXM Series
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 135
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 150
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 165
  • MXM 175
  • MXM 180
  • MXM 190
  • Case IH Maxxum Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Probe the connector at EHR Valve 3 to verify it is receiving steady 12V power and has a clean ground (controller shuts down output if voltage drops below 8V or spikes too high)

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between EHR Valve 3 and the Central Controller (XCM) for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or corrosion inside the connector pins

  3. Check if the valve has been operated manually or if the spool is physically stuck/binding due to hydraulic system contamination

  4. Cross-check for accompanying communication codes (such as R33 or R37), which point to a CAN bus wiring failure rather than a failed valve

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers/buttons to relieve residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Electronics

Unplug the electrical harness connector from EHR Valve 3.

  4. Remove the Valve Slice

Unbolt the tie rods that hold the remote valve stack together. Carefully slide out the faulty Valve 3 slice.

  5. Replace Seals

Discard the old O-rings between the valve slices. Always install new internal and external O-rings when reassembling the valve stack.

  6. Install New Valve

Insert the replacement EHR valve slice, align the O-rings, and re-torque the valve stack tie rods to the OEM specification found in the service manual.

  7. Calibrate the System

Once the new valve is installed and the tractor is restarted, you must perform an EHR valve calibration using the tractor's H-Menu or an Electronic Service Tool (EST). This allows the controller to learn the new valve's specific neutral position and travel limits.
