Case IH R36 – Central Controller (XCM): EHR Control Unit 3 Full Flow Switch Error
Issue description
This code indicates a malfunction or communication failure involving the full flow switch on the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve 3. The EHR system electronically regulates the hydraulic flow to the rear remotes and hitch.

Check the cause
Turn the key off, disconnect the battery, and disconnect the connectors at EHR Valve 3. Use a multimeter to check for open circuits, short-to-ground conditions, or high resistance in the wiring harness between EHR Valve 3 and the Central Controller (XCM).
Inspect the EHR Valve 3 full flow switch and solenoid for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connector pins.
Check the EHR lever position sensor for erratic voltage readings, as a failing potentiometer in the armrest control lever can send implausible signals to the valve.
Verify that the hydraulic charge pressure and system pressure are within specification, as low pilot pressure can sometimes trigger flow switch errors.
Repair steps
Power Down
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.
Access the Valve Block
Locate the rear Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify Valve 3.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or open circuit, repair the wiring harness or replace the damaged connector pigtail.
Component Replacement
If the wiring is intact but the switch/valve fails testing, replace the EHR Valve 3 assembly. If the armrest lever potentiometer was found to be the culprit, replace the lever switch assembly in the cab armrest.
Reassembly
Reconnect all electrical connections and the battery.
System Calibration
Anytime a PWM solenoid valve, potentiometer, or EHR component is replaced, or if a mechanical repair is effected, a Transmission/EDC Calibration must be performed. Enter the tractor's H-Menu (Diagnostic/Calibration mode), navigate to the ARM (armrest/remotes) calibration section, cycle the EHR levers as prompted by the display, and turn off the key and wait 30 seconds to save the calibration to the non-volatile memory before restarting the tractor.
