Case IH R41 – EHR Control Unit: EHR Control Unit 4 Float Switch Error

This fault code indicates a malfunction in the circuit or signal for the float position of Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve number 4. The system has detected that the switch/lever command for the float function is either out of range, shorted, open, or failing to calibrate properly.

   H-Menu Switch Test: Enter the tractor's diagnostic system (H-Menu) and perform an "H5 Switch Test" to verify if the Central Controller is receiving the correct physical signal from the #4 remote lever/switch on the armrest when pushed into the float detent.

   Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the armrest remote switch #4 and the EHR control unit. Look for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Pilot Head Swap Test: Swap the electrical connector from EHR valve #4 to another working valve (like #3) to see if the fault code follows the valve or stays with the armrest switch circuit (a failing pilot head is a very common cause).

   Calibration Check: Attempt to run the EHR lever and valve calibration procedure. Sometimes a loss of non-volatile memory or a voltage spike can cause the controller to lose the lever's calibrated float position.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, lower all implements to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery.

   Replace the Faulty Component

   If the armrest switch failed: Remove the armrest console trim. Unplug the harness from the #4 remote lever/switch assembly, unbolt it from the console, and install the replacement switch. If the EHR valve pilot head failed (most common): Locate the #4 remote valve on the rear hydraulic stack. Disconnect the wiring harness from the pilot head (the black electronic module bolted to the valve body). Remove the retaining screws, pull off the old pilot head, and install the new one. Ensure the internal O-rings are seated correctly.

   Reassemble and Power Up

   Reconnect the harnesses and the battery.

   Recalibrate the EHR System

   After replacing either a switch or an EHR valve pilot head, you must recalibrate the control lever. Enter the tractor's calibration mode. Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle the #4 lever through its full range of motion (Extend, Neutral, Retract, and Float). Save the calibration (on MXM models, this often involves pulsing the EHR timer switch 3 times and turning the key switch OFF to store the programming).
