R46

Case IH R46 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Controller: EHR Control Unit 4 Full Flow Switch Error

Issue description

This code indicates a malfunction in the "full flow switch" circuit for the #4 Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) control lever. The system is detecting an electrical fault (such as a short, open circuit, or implausible signal) from the switch that commands maximum hydraulic flow to the #4 remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM Series
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 175
  • MXM 190
  • Magnum Series
  • Steiger Series
  • Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Enter the tractor's H-Menu (menu H5) to monitor switch inputs and actuate the #4 EHR lever to see if the full flow switch registers on the instrument cluster

  2. Disconnect the #4 EHR lever connector and use a multi-meter to check the continuity and resistance of the full flow switch

  3. Inspect the CAN BUS wiring harness from the EHR control pod in the cab to the central controller, and from the controller to the remote valves for chafed wires or loose pins

  4. Check the EHR relay in the fuse and relay box to ensure it is operating correctly and providing proper voltage to the circuit

  5. Swap the electrical plug from EHR pod #4 to another pod (like #1 or #2) to see if the fault follows the lever or stays with the wiring/valve

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery isolator switch before working on the EHR CAN BUS system.

  2. Replace the Faulty Component

If the multi-meter test confirms the switch is dead, replace the switch itself or the entire EHR lever/pilot head assembly. If the EHR relay is faulty, replace the relay in the fuse box. If the wiring harness is damaged, repair the broken wires or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Reassemble

Reconnect all harnesses and restore battery power.

  4. Recalibrate the Remotes

Enter the H1 calibration menu. Turn the flow control to max flow. Pull the #1 lever (and subsequent levers) into the raise detent position as prompted by the instrument cluster until calibration is complete.

  5. Clear Codes

Clear the stored fault codes and test the #4 remote with an implement or hydraulic motor to verify the repair.
