Case IH R48 – Central Controller (XCM): EHR Control Unit 4 Lever Faulty

The electronic signal from the in-cab control lever for the #4 Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve is missing, out of range, or corrupted. The system cannot accurately read the operator's input for that specific hydraulic remote.

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic H-Menu and navigate to the H5 Switch Test to test the #4 lever to see if the controller is registering any physical movement or if the signal is completely dead.

   Test the wiring harness from the cab controls to the central controller (XCM). Look for pinched wires, corroded pins, or a disconnected plug at the base of the #4 lever.

   Navigate to the H1 Calibration Menu and attempt to recalibrate the EHR valves. If the lever has simply lost its calibration parameters, a successful calibration may clear the fault.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, and turn off the key switch.

   Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the trim panels on the right-hand side console/armrest to access the underside of the EHR lever bank.

   Locate the #4 lever (color-coded black) and disconnect its specific electrical harness connector.

   Remove the retaining screws/bolts holding the faulty #4 lever assembly in the console bracket and pull the lever out.

   Install the new lever assembly and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electrical harness, reassemble the console trim, and reconnect the battery.

   Calibrate the new lever by entering the H-Menu, selecting H1, and following the on-screen prompts to calibrate the EHR valves.

   This ensures the XCM recognizes the new lever's full range of motion.
