Case IH S 1 – Hitch Controller / Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module: Right load pin failed
Issue description
The hitch controller has detected that the voltage from the right draft pin sensor is outside the normal operating range, meaning the sensor has failed or there is a wiring issue.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the right draft pin at the rear of the tractor for rubbed, broken, or rodent-chewed wires
Ensure the connector at the draft pin is clean, tight, and free of corrosion or moisture
Back-probe the sensor to verify if the voltage is actually out of range (confirming a dead sensor) or if the controller is missing the 8V reference voltage entirely
Repair steps
Lower the 3-point hitch
Option A (If draft sensing is required): Lower the 3-point hitch to the ground to relieve all pressure and weight from the linkage.
Disconnect the electrical harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the right draft pin.
Remove the retaining hardware
Remove the retaining hardware holding the right draft pin in the lower hitch link.
Slide the defective draft pin out
Slide the defective draft pin out.
Install the new draft pin
Install the new draft pin, secure the retaining hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.
Cycle the tractor key
Cycle the tractor key to clear the code and test the hitch operation.
Locate the electrical connectors
Option B (If draft sensing is NOT used): Locate the electrical connectors for both the left and right draft pins at the rear of the tractor.
Unplug the harnesses
Unplug the harnesses from both draft pins.
Plug in the elimination modules
Plug the two electronic load sensing elimination modules (dummy plugs) into the tractor's wiring harness.
Secure the modules and wiring
Secure the modules and wiring out of the way using zip ties.
Verify hitch operation
The diagnostic system will no longer detect the pins, the 'S 1' code will clear, and the 3-point hitch will function normally in standard position-control mode.
