Case IH S – Tractor Multi-Function (TMF) controller or Hitch/Armrest Control Module: Hitch Draft Control System Failure
Issue description
Two load pins have failed or one load pin if calibrated for one load pin. The draft load sensing pins measure the mechanical draft load on the 3-point hitch. When the sensors fail or send out-of-range voltage signals to the controller, the system disables the auto-draft control feature and triggers the 'S' error code on the digital display.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the left and right draft load sensing pins for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
Verify the system configuration in the controller to ensure it is correctly calibrated for either a single-pin or dual-pin setup.
Check the draft pin voltage during a 'no load' condition. The voltage must be within the specified OEM range during hitch calibration. If the voltage is out of spec, the pin has internally failed.
Attempt to re-zero the load cells and run a lower hitch calibration. If the calibration aborts or the sensor exhibits a negative load pin value, the load pin is defective.
Repair steps
Lower hitch
Option A (OEM Replacement): Lower the 3-point hitch to the ground to relieve all mechanical tension on the linkage.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the tractor battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Unplug connector
Unplug the electrical connector from the defective draft load sensing pin(s).
Remove hardware
Remove the retaining hardware securing the draft pin to the lower hitch link.
Remove pin
Slide the old draft pin out of the housing.
Install new pin
Install the new OEM draft sensing pin and secure the mechanical linkage.
Reconnect harness
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Calibrate hitch
Power on the tractor and perform a hitch load cell calibration using the electronic service tool or in-cab display to clear the 'S' code.
Locate connectors
Option B (Pin Eliminator Kit): Locate the electrical connectors for the left and right draft pins at the rear of the tractor.
Unplug harness
Unplug the factory wiring harness from both draft pins.
Plug eliminator modules
Plug the eliminator modules directly into the tractor's wiring harness.
Secure modules
Secure the modules and wiring with zip ties to prevent snagging.
Clear code
The diagnostic system will no longer detect the defective pins, the 'S' code will clear, and draft sensing will be permanently disabled.
