Case IH t76 – PCU (Powertrain Control Unit): Control Duration, Data Valid But Above Normal Range

Occurs during the transmission or clutch calibration process. It indicates that the time taken to fill a specific clutch pack or complete a calibration step has exceeded the maximum allowable time limit programmed into the controller.

   Verify transmission oil is at the correct level and temperature is strictly between 20°C and 50°C (68°F - 122°F).

   Test the clutch pedal potentiometer resistance by disconnecting the connector and operating the pedal (should read between 0.90K Ohms and 3.7K Ohms).

   Check the wiring harness and connectors between the PCU and the transmission control valve block for continuity issues, shorts to ground, or corroded pins.

   Test the transmission PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) solenoid valves for sticking or excessive electrical resistance.

   Check hydraulic pressure to the clutch packs to ensure there are no internal leaks causing extended fill times.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on level ground, apply the parking brake, turn off the air conditioning, and deselect all electrical and hydraulic services.

   Component Replacement

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a faulty clutch pedal potentiometer or a sticking PWM solenoid valve, replace the defective component.

   Clear Codes and Enter Calibration Mode

   Enter the transmission calibration mode (H1 menu) by holding the upshift and downshift buttons while starting the engine until 'CAL' appears on the transmission display.

   Run Calibration

   Set the engine speed to 1200 RPM. Follow the display prompts to calibrate the clutches. 'SOC' will appear during calibration, and 'END' will display upon successful completion.

   Mechanical Tear-down

   If the electrical components are fine and the t76 error persists during calibration, the transmission has a mechanical fault. Perform a transmission tear-down and mechanical repair to address worn clutch pack seals or damaged discs.
