Case IH t7f – PCU: Crankshaft Signal In PCU, Data Valid But Above Normal Range
Issue description
The control unit is receiving a signal from the crankshaft position/speed sensor that is in a valid format, but the data (such as frequency, voltage, or engine speed calculation) exceeds the expected normal operating parameters. This is often caused by electrical interference, a failing sensor, or an incorrect sensor air gap.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the crankshaft speed sensor to ensure it is mounted correctly and securely.
Inspect the sensor's electrical connector and wiring harness for open circuits, short circuits, or damaged wire isolation/shielding that could allow electromagnetic interference.
Check the clearance gap between the sensor tip and the flywheel teeth/crankshaft signal panel (standard clearance is typically 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm, up to 2.0 mm).
Inspect the flywheel ring gear or signal panel for damaged, bent, or missing teeth.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the crankshaft position sensor on the side of the engine block, typically near the flywheel housing.
Disconnect the 3-pin electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove the retaining bolt(s) securing the sensor to the engine block.
Carefully pull the old sensor out of the housing.
Clean the mounting surface on the engine block thoroughly to ensure the new sensor sits completely flush.
Insert the new crankshaft position sensor into the housing.
Verify the air gap between the sensor and the flywheel teeth is within the manufacturer's specification.
Reinstall and tighten the mounting bolt.
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and clear the fault codes using your diagnostic tool or the tractor's H-Menu configuration screen.
