Case IH t8E – Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) or Engine Control Unit (ECU) / PTO/Hand Throttle Codes (XCM): Fuel Injection Pump Temperature, Data Valid But Below Normal Range

The sensor monitoring the fuel injection pump temperature is sending a valid electrical signal (meaning the circuit is not completely open or shorted to ground), but the temperature value being reported is below the expected normal operating range for the current engine conditions.

   Turn the Power OFF and Keyswitch OFF, then disconnect the battery or pull the specified fuse.

   Disconnect the connectors at both ends of the fuel injection pump temperature sensor circuit to isolate it.

   Set a multimeter to measure resistance (Ohms).

   Test for shorts to ground by touching the black lead to a clean chassis ground and the red lead to the connector pins. Avoid making contact with the metal case of the connectors.

   Compare the measured resistance to normal OEM specifications to determine if the wiring harness is compromised or if the sensor is at fault.

   Cut away the damaged section of the cable cover.

   If the wiring harness is damaged.

   Splice and repair the broken wires using proper electrical repair techniques.

   Make a paper trough and apply a silicon rubber compound (non-hardening sealant) over the repaired section up to the cover ends.

   Ensure sufficient sealant is used to fill the ends of the cut-away area.

   Allow the compound to cure completely.

   Cover the area with insulating tape, ensuring the tape goes well over each end of the repair with an overlap of at least 2 inches (50 mm).

   Ensure the engine is cool and the key is in the OFF position.

   If the wiring is intact (Sensor Replacement).

   Locate the fuel injection pump temperature sensor on the fuel injection pump assembly.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.

   Unthread and remove the faulty temperature sensor.

   Have a rag ready to catch any minor fuel spillage.

    Install the new sensor and tighten to OEM torque specifications.

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

    Turn the key ON, clear the stored fault codes from the EIC, and run the tractor to verify the code does not return.
