Case IH t9 – Electronic Engine Control Unit (ECU): Ambient Pressure Sensor, Open Circuit Or Current Below Normal Range
Issue description
The controller is detecting a loss of signal, a broken wire, or a voltage/current drop below the acceptable operating threshold for the ambient (barometric) pressure sensor.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MXM
- MXM 120
- MXM 130
- MXM 140
- MXM 155
- MXM 175
- MXM 190
- Magnum Series
Check the cause
Consult the specific machine's service manual to determine if the ambient pressure sensor is a standalone external sensor or integrated directly into the ECU (like on EEM3 controllers)
If the sensor is external: Inspect the OEM wiring harness leading to the engine and ECU for physical damage, chafing, or broken wires
If the sensor is external: Disconnect the sensor (slide lock to the right, press release tab, and pull) and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals
If the sensor is internal to the ECU: Perform an ECU swap test by temporarily connecting a known-good EEM3 controller to see if the t9 fault clears
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery before servicing ECU components or wiring.
Repair Wiring
If an open circuit is found in the harness between the external sensor and the ECU, splice and seal the damaged wires according to OEM harness repair guidelines.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact but the external sensor is faulty, remove the old sensor and install the replacement.
Replace the ECU
If the ambient pressure sensor is internal to the ECU and has failed, the entire Engine Control Unit must be replaced.
Recalibrate
After replacing the sensor or ECU, clear the fault codes. Depending on the repair, you may need to enter the tractor's H-Menu to perform an EDC/Transmission calibration (which involves setting the engine speed to 1200 ERPM and following the on-screen prompts) to ensure all modules are communicating correctly.

Engine Control Unit (ECU)
Required if the machine utilizes an EEM3 controller where the ambient pressure sensor is built into the module and cannot be serviced separately.
