Case IH t93 – Electronic Engine Controller (ECU) or PTO/Hand Throttle Controller (XCM): Reserve 1, Data Valid But Above Normal Range

The controller is detecting a voltage signal on a reserved (unused) circuit that is higher than the expected normal range. This typically indicates an electrical short to a positive voltage source in the wiring harness, moisture/corrosion in the connector causing pin cross-talk, or an internal controller fault.

   Inspect the ECU and XCM connectors for moisture, dirt, or green copper corrosion

   Perform a short to positive test by disconnecting the harness, turning the keyswitch ON, and probing the reserved pin on the harness side to a good chassis ground to check for voltage

   Perform a continuity/resistance test with the keyswitch OFF to check for shorts between wires, looking for unexpected continuity between the reserved pin and a power wire

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage.

   Access the Controller

   Locate the ECU/XCM and disconnect its main wiring harness connectors.

   Clean Connectors

   Thoroughly clean the pins and receptacles using electrical contact cleaner and compressed air to remove any moisture, dirt, or corrosion.

   Inspect the Harness

   Trace the wiring harness from the controller, looking for chafing, melted insulation, or pinch points that could cause a power wire to short against the reserved circuit wire.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short is found, cut out the damaged section of the wire. Splice in a new wire using a harness repair kit, and seal the connection with heat-shrink tubing.

   Test the System

   Reconnect the harness, reconnect the battery, and turn the keyswitch ON to see if the code clears.

   Controller Replacement/Reflash

   If the wiring is perfectly intact and the connectors are clean but the code persists, the controller (ECU/XCM) likely has an internal hardware short or software corruption. It will need to be reflashed or replaced by a Case IH dealer.
