Case IH t96 – Transmission / EDC (Electronic Draft Control) controller: Monitoring Module, Data Valid But Below Normal Range
Issue description
The system's monitoring module is receiving a signal or operating at a parameter that is logically valid (meaning it is not a complete open or short circuit), but the value is lower than the acceptable operational threshold programmed into the controller.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MXM
- MXM 120
- MXM 130
- MXM 140
- MXM 155
- MXM 175
- MXM 190
- TM Series (TM115-TM165)
Check the cause
Verify System Voltage: Check the battery health and alternator output. Low system voltage or a weak ground can cause modules to report data below normal range.
Inspect Wiring and Grounds: Check the harness connections to the transmission monitoring module and PCU for corrosion, moisture, or high resistance.
Access the H-Menu: Use the tractor's built-in diagnostic system via the Digital Instrument Cluster to verify if the code is active or stored.
Check for Related Codes: Look for associated transmission or EDC codes (such as t97) that might pinpoint a specific sensor feed dropping the module's reference voltage.
Repair steps
Park and secure the tractor.
Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and turn off all electrical and hydraulic services (including A/C).
Clean module connectors.
Disconnect and clean the connectors at the monitoring module. Apply dielectric grease and reconnect.
Clear codes and test drive.
Clear the fault codes via the H-Menu and test drive the tractor to see if t96 returns.
Replace the monitoring module.
If the code returns and the module is deemed faulty by a dealer service tool, replace the monitoring module/microprocessor.
Perform a Transmission/EDC Calibration.
Mandatory after module replacement: Ensure the transmission oil temperature is between 20°C and 50°C. Hold the High and Low range buttons simultaneously and start the engine. Release the buttons when 'CAL' appears on the transmission display. Set the engine speed to 1200 RPM (±100). Follow the display prompts to calibrate the clutches. The display will show a number increasing, followed by 'SOC' during calibration, and 'END' when the process is successfully completed.
Parts you might need
(1)Transmission Monitoring Module / Power Control Unit (PCU) / Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC)
The exact CNH part number varies heavily based on the specific MXM model year, cab configuration, and transmission type. A dealer lookup using the machine's specific PIN is required.
