Case IH tC6 – Power Control Unit (PCU) or Transmission Control Unit (TCU): PTO Twist Sensor Not Calibrated

The control module has lost the baseline (zero-torque) calibration value for the PTO twist sensor, or the stored calibration value is out of the acceptable range (too high or too low).

   Ensure Zero Load: Verify that the PTO is completely disengaged and there is absolutely no implement attached or residual load on the PTO shaft.

   Check for Related Codes: Look for other active fault codes related to the PTO twist sensor (e.g., TC7, TC9, 3121/3122). If present, fix the hard electrical fault before calibration.

   Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and the 3-pin connector at the PTO twist sensor for corrosion, moisture, or damaged pins.

   Secure the tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface. Firmly apply the parking brake and block the wheels (front and rear) to prevent unexpected movement.

   Verify PTO is disengaged

   Ensure the PTO is turned OFF and no equipment is attached to the shaft.

   Start the engine

   Start the engine and allow it to idle.

   Enter Calibration / H-Menu mode

   Enter the tractor's Calibration / H-Menu mode. On MXM models, this is typically done by holding the High and Low range buttons while starting the engine until 'CAL' appears in the transmission display. On newer models, install the diagnostic connector and use the 'h', 'm', and 'dimming' buttons on the instrument cluster to navigate the menus.

   Set engine speed

   Set the engine speed to the specified calibration RPM (usually 1200 or 1300 RPM, depending on the specific model's manual).

   Navigate to calibration menu

   Navigate to the PTO twist sensor calibration menu.

   Adopt new zero-torque value

   Follow the on-screen prompts to adopt the new zero-torque value (often by pressing and holding the 'm' button until the signal stabilizes for 2 seconds, an audible beep is heard, and the display confirms the new sensor voltage reading).

   Verify code clearance

   Exit calibration mode and restart the tractor to verify the tC6 code has cleared.

   Replace sensor if necessary

   If the calibration repeatedly fails or the value is rejected as out of range, the PTO twist sensor is internally faulty and must be replaced.
