Case IH tE2 – SCM (System Control Module) / XCM-DL (Transmission/Chassis Control Module): Fan rpm out of range.
Issue description
Triggered when the engine cooling fan speed is lower or higher than expected. The underlying condition is typically a false speed signal from the fan speed sensor, a wiring harness fault, or a completely burnt-out/damaged Visctronic (viscous) fan drive coupling.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MXM
- MXM120
- MXM130
- MXM140
- MXM155
- MXM175
- MXM190
Check the cause
Default Speed Test: Unplug the Visctronic fan harness completely. When unplugged, the fan should default to running at full speed. If it does not run at full speed, the viscous clutch has mechanically failed and must be replaced.
Voltage & Ground Check: Check the fan harness plug (located near the valve cover) for a 5V reference signal and verify that both grounds are solid. Specifically, check for a good ground on pin 4 of the harness side.
A/C High-Pressure Switch Check: Verify if the fan engages during A/C operation. If the fan is not engaging when high-side pressure exceeds 260 PSI, the A/C high-pressure switch may be faulty and failing to command the fan.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor and ensure the key is removed.
Do not depress the diagnostic switch during standard startup.
Disconnect the electrical harness connector for the Visctronic fan.
Disconnect the electrical harness connector for the Visctronic fan.
Remove the fan assembly from the engine.
The fan clutch assembly threads directly onto the water pump.
Thread the new Visctronic fan clutch assembly onto the water pump.
Thread the new Visctronic fan clutch assembly onto the water pump.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Start the tractor and turn on the A/C to build head pressure.
Build head pressure above 260 PSI to verify that the new fan engages and moves air properly.
Clear the stored tE2 fault code from the module.
