Case IH U04 – Transmission / Suspension Control Module: Front Axle Potentiometer Threshold Is Lower Than The Set Limit

The signal voltage or position reading from the front axle suspension potentiometer has dropped below the minimum acceptable parameter established by the system. When this occurs, the Auto Calibration Procedure (ACP) for the front suspension cannot be completed.

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic/calibration mode (H-Menu) and observe the displayed potentiometer reading. If the total range between the maximum and minimum values is less than 150 (or raw value reads less than 240 or 51 on some Puma models), the potentiometer is likely faulty.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the front axle potentiometer. Verify that it is receiving power, that it is properly grounded, and that the signal wire is not open or shorted to power.

   Check the physical linkage connecting the potentiometer to the front axle. Ensure it is not bent, disconnected, or binding.

   Ensure the front suspension mechanical components are free to move through their full range of motion without physical obstruction.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Inspect and Clean

   Locate the front axle potentiometer on the front suspension assembly. Clean the area around the sensor and its electrical connector to prevent dirt ingress.

   Test the Circuit

   Disconnect the potentiometer harness. Using a multimeter, verify the reference voltage and ground at the connector. If the wiring is damaged, repair the harness.

   Adjust or Replace Linkage

   If the mechanical linkage is damaged or out of adjustment, repair it so the sensor can accurately read the full travel of the suspension.

   Replace the Potentiometer

   If the wiring and linkage are intact but the threshold reading remains too low, remove the mounting hardware and disconnect the faulty potentiometer. Install the new potentiometer and reattach the linkage.

   Perform Auto Calibration

   After replacing the sensor, you MUST perform the Auto Calibration Procedure (ACP) for the front suspension using the tractor's H-Menu to teach the controller the new minimum and maximum positions.
