U1

Case IH U1 – Electronic Hydraulic Remotes (EHR): Flow Control For Lever 1 Set Incorrectly During Calibration

Issue description

During the calibration of the Electronic Hydraulic Remotes (EHR), the flow control dial or lever for remote valve #1 was not placed in the correct position required by the calibration sequence.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 175
  • MXM 190
  • TM120
  • TM130
  • TM140
  • TM155
  • TM175
  • TM190

Check the cause

  1. Verify that you are following the exact steps for EHR calibration, as the OEM manual explicitly notes a 'U' Fault Code will be displayed if the setup procedure is not followed correctly.

  2. Ensure that the flow control knob for Lever 1 is physically capable of reaching the required calibration setpoint (usually maximum or a specific detent).

  3. Look for other codes that might indicate a hardware failure preventing calibration, such as U01-U04 (potentiometer errors) or 42, 43, 81, 82 (internal valve faults, spool position transducer faults, or mechanical binding).

Repair steps

  1. Clear the Code and Restart Calibration

Enter the tractor's H-Menu (Calibration/Configuration menu) and restart the Electronic Hydraulic Remotes (EHR) calibration procedure.

  2. Set Flow Control Correctly

When prompted by the instrument cluster display during the Lever 1 calibration step, ensure the flow control dial for Lever 1 is adjusted exactly as specified in the service manual (typically turned to the fully open/maximum flow position before confirming).

  3. Complete the Sequence

Proceed through the rest of the remotes (the system will throw U2, U3, or U4 if levers 2, 3, or 4 are set incorrectly). The display will show 'END' to signify completion.

  4. Test the Potentiometer

If you set the lever correctly but the U1 code persists, the controller is not seeing the correct voltage from the Lever 1 flow control potentiometer. Test the potentiometer for smooth voltage sweep. If it has a dead spot or open circuit, it must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Flow Control Potentiometer

    87605245

Fits Case IH MXM series and New Holland TM series. (Alternative to 256304A2 depending on exact cab configuration/update)

  • Flow Control Potentiometer

    256304A2

Fits Case IH MXM series and New Holland TM series. (Alternative to 87605245 depending on exact cab configuration/update)

  • EHR Valve (Electro-Hydraulic Remote Valve)

    87546169

Complete spool valve set with EHR control. Only replace if internal spool transducer faults (Codes 42/43) are present alongside the calibration error.
