Case IH U10 – Electronic Management Unit (EMU): Suspension Is Unable To Reach The Minimum Height Within 25 Seconds

Issue description

This fault code is triggered during the automatic calibration procedure of the suspended front axle. It indicates that the system commanded the front suspension to lower to its minimum height, but the suspension position sensor did not register that the minimum height was reached before the 25-second timeout window expired. This is typically caused by a faulty position sensor (potentiometer), a stuck lowering solenoid valve, mechanical binding in the suspension, or insufficient hydraulic flow/pressure.

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission/hydraulic oil temperature (must be above 10°C/50°F for successful calibration)

  2. Verify calibration conditions: tractor stationary on level ground, handbrake applied, and engine RPM around 1200

  3. Inspect the front axle position sensor (potentiometer) mechanical linkage under the front left of the tractor for bending, disconnection, or seizing

  4. Test the lowering solenoid on the suspension valve block to ensure it has not failed (often accompanied by code L03)

Repair steps

  1. Warm Up the Tractor

    Run the tractor until the hydraulic fluid is at operating temperature (well above 10°C).

  2. Test Sensor Voltage

    Using a multimeter or the tractor's H-Menu diagnostic screen, monitor the voltage of the front axle position sensor as the axle moves. If the voltage is erratic, stuck, or out of range (e.g., throwing a code L04 or L05 for threshold limits), the potentiometer has failed and must be replaced.

  3. Replace the Potentiometer

    Disconnect the 3-pin wiring harness from the sensor. Unbolt the sensor bracket and disconnect the mechanical linkage. Install the new sensor and reattach the linkage.

  4. Check Hydraulic Valves

    If the sensor reads correctly but the axle physically will not lower, inspect the suspension valve block. Clean the spool valve and test the lowering solenoid for continuity. Replace the solenoid if it is dead.

  5. Recalibrate the Suspension

    After replacing the sensor or valve, you must perform the Suspended Front Axle Calibration Procedure via the tractor's H-Menu.

  6. Enter Calibration Mode

    Enter the calibration mode using the High and Low range buttons on the transmission display. Follow the on-screen prompts until "END" is displayed, signifying the EMU has successfully learned the new minimum and maximum suspension heights.
