U109

Case IH U109 – Transmission Control Module (TCU) / Central Control Unit (CCU) or Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module: Hydro not in position

Issue description

A calibration error code triggered when the system fails to complete a calibration procedure successfully (FPS, EDC, or EHR calibration) because the controller is not detecting the expected position or speed from the hydrostatic components.

Applies to these machines

  • Case IH Puma Series 125, 140, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX
  • Case IH Maxxum Series
  • Case IH MX / TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and connectors leading to the hydro-in and hydro-out sensors for chafing, pinched wires, or corrosion.

  2. Inspect the hydro-in and hydro-out sensors for physical damage and verify their frequency/resistance outputs against OEM specs (e.g., hydro-in sensor frequency should read 0 to 4000 Hz).

  3. Check the hydraulic circuit for low pressure by ensuring the transmission/hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and the filters are not clogged.

  4. Listen for abnormal noises and check for mechanical binding in the transmission or draft control linkages that would prevent the hydro unit from reaching its commanded position.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve the Underlying Fault

Repair or replace any damaged wiring harnesses leading to the sensors. If a sensor tests out of specification or is physically damaged, replace the hydro-in or hydro-out sensor. If hydraulic pressure is low, top off the fluid using the approved hydraulic fluid (e.g., CASE IH AKCELA NEXPLORE™ or HY-TRAN® ULTRACTION), replace hydraulic filters, or repair the hydraulic pump as necessary.

  2. Clear Stored Codes and Memory

Turn the ignition key switch ON. Access the sub-system screens (e.g., transmission) on the central display. Use the 'H8' menu command to clear all stored calibration values and fault codes from the EEPROM.

  3. Recalibrate

Once the memory is cleared and the physical repair is complete, re-initiate the calibration procedure (FPS Transmission, EDC, or EHR calibration). Ensure the tractor is at the proper operating temperature before calibrating.

  4. Verify

Confirm that the calibration completes successfully without the U109 code returning.
